- Braided Oval Mat or Rug, Feb/Mar 2026
Learn how to prepare strips, braid, lace the braids together, skip loops to keep the rug flat around curves, change colors, and finish with a taper. Left-Opening folding of strips is taught. You will learn the skills to make a beautiful oval mat or rug of any size in this class. For Beginning Braiders or as a Skill-Refresher.
- Braided Turtle Jan 2026
These continuously braided turtles are fun to braid! Roughly 12" wide and 24" long. The center is a basic oval mat and the head and feet get added in the last two rows. All the basics of braiding will be covered in this course with instructor Mary Hibbard.
- Continuous Chair Pad Jan 2026, 4 session
This class will teach you all the skills you need to braid a chair pad.... or a room-sized round rug! From a T-Start, learn how to braid with left opening folds, how to lace the chair pad to keep it flat by skipping loops, and how to taper the ends to complete the chair pad. The same skills are needed for a large round rug -- just more rows!
- Butted Oval with Diamond Patterns
This class will teach you how to place 3, 4, and 5-row designs around an oval with no disruption in the patterns! A review of Triangle and Annie's Fanny butting methods will take place as part of the course.
- Chair Pad w Picot Edge 112
For 4 Tuesdays over Zoom, learn how to braid round rugs of any size, from chair pad to room-sized rug. After a tapered end, learn how to make a fancy picot edge and butt it! All classes recorded for later viewing.
- Border Blitz #2
Learn how to braid, lace, and butt the following "fancy" borders: Zigzag, Knotted Arches, and Zig on Picot. All three borders create beautiful edgings for your braided centers! Must know at least one method of butting braids for this class.
- 3 Braided 5-point Stars for Chair Pads
Learn three different ways to place 5-point stars in the centers of your chair pads or round rugs. Each begins with a different center, and uses dark/light contrast to create the stars. Learn new butting methods for the centers as part of class. Finish a set to celebrate the 250th US Birthday!
- Butted Multistrand Oval
Using Maxine Ward's oval multistrand rug photo in The Braided Rug Book as our inspiration, we will work on braiding multistrand patterns of your choosing to create complex designs in a (smaller!) oval rug. Open to right- and left-opening braiders.
- Beginner Braided Flag
From T-Starts, braid solid and mixed braids to create the Stars and Stripes. A careful arrangement of strand colors makes the starry portion, and color changes turn that section into stripes. Finish with fringe. A great project to finish in time for July 4, the 250th birthday of the US!
- Kittycat Chair Pad or Trivet
From a continuous braided center, add add one butted row with ears for the trivet, and two butted rows for the larger chair pad. Some experience with butting is required for this class. Learn to braid the sharp corners that make the ears. Optional: embellish with button eyes, and wool scraps for nose, and whiskers.
- Braided Granny Squares Mar/Apr 2026
This course will teach you how to braid and lace butted rows with triple corners to make perfectly-shaped squares. Learn how to lace triple corners in alternation to keep the corners true. Learn how to make two different 8-loop center options for the squares. And, learn how to shoe-lace the squares together securely.
